Lighting Restoration Project – Ten Trinity Square, London

Ten Trinity Square is a Grade II* building next to the Tower of London World Heritage Site. It will start to welcome guests, members and residents in 2016 and will comprise an exclusive club, a lavish Four Seasons hotel and 41 luxury residences.

The original building was opened as the headquarters of the Port of London Authority by David Lloyd George, the Prime Minister, in 1922. Now it is being comprehensively and meticulously restored and upgraded under the stewardship of conservation architects Donald Insall Associates.

We have previously worked with the specialist team at Donald Insall Associates on a number of projects including Quadrant 3 and the Palace of Westminster. This prestigious commission required extensive reference to our lighting archive so that our team’s work to repair the chandeliers for the club and the entrance hall maintained architectural integrity.

However, this project was not just about restoring the lighting to its former glory. So while we undertook the required rewiring, we also devised discreet integral emergency lighting incorporating the latest LED technology. While for the chandelier for the entrance hall we removed the glass panels and replaced them with opal acrylic sections, which are not only lighter making the chandelier easier to hang and safer but also diffuse the light in a more effective manner.

It was a fascinating project combining many of our team’s skills and it’s fantastic to see their work alongside that of so many UK heritage specialists on display.
