Head of Production

Mark Pye has a background in engineering and has worked in the lighting industry for the majority of his career. He joined Dernier & Hamlyn in 2006 as factory manager and now leads on the manufacturing and operational sides of the business as well as overseeing all major installation works worldwide to ensure that our clients’ bespoke lighting is produced to the highest possible standards and delivered to meet their cost requirements and deadlines.

What is the best lighting project you have worked on and why?
The atrium light features we made with Waterford Crystal for Holland American Line. This project was a real challenge that started from sketches on A4 paper and was turned in to a major piece of engineering, weighing 1.5 tons. Installing each fitting was also tricky, but seeing what they looked like was very rewarding.

What is your favourite place?
It has to be Venice , having worked there and holidayed I think there is no place like it. The history, the architecture is stunning. It’s so different working with the people who live there who showed me the true Venice and their way of life.
