Bespoke Lamp Claridge's

Claridge's

Designer: OLIVER LAWS

Location: London, UK

Michelin-starred Fera at Claridge’s is a creative and natural take on modern British cuisine. Throughout the hotel, which is recognised as the finest art deco hotel in London, many of the features added through the 1920s and 1930s remain in place and have been enhanced over the years. Dernier & Hamlyn was commissioned to produce bespoke lighting in keeping with the hotel’s heritage design for this stunning restaurant. You can see a video about designer Guy Oliver’s inspiration for the lighting at Fera.

Inspired by the newel posts spotted on the magnificent staircases at another 1930s building and architectural details in the hotel, Guy Oliver designed the pedestal lamps that sit atop the marble counters of the serving stations in the restaurant and in the cocktail bar. They feature strong, streamlined shapes, typical of this glamorous epoch including chevrons finished in polished nickel to emulate the desire for shiny materials akin to chrome, a brand-new material of the time.
