When high-end Interior Design studio Rebecca Hughes Interiors was commissioned to redesign the public spaces of a luxury apartment residence in Grosvenor Square in Mayfair, London, the right lighting in the entrance lobby was critical to achieving the desired look and feel.
Having unsuccessfully scoured all available resources to try to find a chandelier that was appropriate for this beautiful 1930s building, Rebecca contacted Dernier & Hamlyn to create exactly what was required. She talks about the partnership on this short video.
She had worked with our team previously on a project for an overseas client and knew that their artisan team’s skills would be perfect for what she wanted to achieve at Grosvenor Square.
Rebecca said: “We consider lighting right from the start of all of our commissions. It has the ability to make a huge impact on a space. The lighting at this beautiful house had to be particularly noteworthy so we partnered with Dernier & Hamlyn to produce a wonderful chandelier for the front lobby that is very large and has a number of light lamps on it.
“It works with the history of the building and not only does it have a gorgeous finish, but it also ties in perfectly with everything else in the space.”
The chandelier which was designed, produced and installed by Dernier & Hamlyn was hand formed in the company’s factory from solid brass and finished in antique brass. It features around 600 crystals that were wired by hand to form swags and drapes before being individually fixed to the framework. It comprises 20 lamps each of which has an ivory silk shade and is 1500mm high and 1000mm in diameter.
