Designer: MARTIN BRUDNIZKI DESIGN STUDIO
Location: London, UK
The Ivy restaurant has been a landmark of London’s dining scene since it opened in 1917 but needed refreshment and new energy to take it into the 21st century. The brief was to use light art within its redesign to achieve a subtle, luxurious appearance and decorative statement that would lift the aesthetic even further.
Interior designs by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio retained many original features including wood paneling and harlequin stained glass, all offset by newer, more contemporary elements. At the centre, the restaurant’s spectacular dining bar required table lights to illuminate and complement this focal point.
We cast lamp bases in solid brass using handcrafted wooden moulds, which were topped with hand-cut faceted glass shades with sandblasted internal facings to provide a soft spread of light. The subtle and sophisticated ambience afforded by these lights offered the sense of timelessness and elegant discretion that this iconic restaurant is renowned for.
