Dutch Style Chandeliers – St Martin-in-the-Fields, London

The renewal of St Martin-in-the-Fields, masterminded by Eric Parry Architects, restored James Gibbs’s 18th century London landmark inside and out, and created iconic new buildings and public spaces.

As part of this ambitious project, we were commissioned to refurbish the Dutch style chandeliers which hang throughout the church, and to replicate several as an addition to the existing suite of lighting.

As we also manufactured the original lighting – more than a century ago – we were able to refer to archive material dating back to our company’s beginnings to ensure that the new light fittings were faithful copies.

Hugh Player, Chief Executive of St Martin-in-the-Fields said: “We were delighted that the original lighting designers, Dernier & Hamlyn, were able to work with us on the renewal project and to restore and replicate our much-loved church chandeliers.

“They have ensured the lighting is consistent with Gibbs’ original design but presented in accordance now with modern technical standards.

“It was key to the renewal of St Martin-in-the-Fields that James Gibbs’ masterpiece was renewed and presented to the highest standards. The church, crypt and new spaces have been fitted out to meet the needs of the people we serve in the 21st century and beyond.”
