Dernier & Hamlyn selected to create bespoke lighting for uber luxury apartments
Clarges Mayfair is an exciting new landmark development, which comprises 34 premium residences and a luxury spa with unparalleled views of Green Park and Buckingham Palace. Creative design studio Martin Kemp Design brought together timeless colours and lines, a sense of Britishness and influences of Art Deco and Classicism to deliver this unique, ultra-high specification development.
Award-winning lighting designers StudioFractal developed a comprehensive lighting strategy for this super-prime luxury development via close collaboration with the client, architect and interior designer. Carefully layered lighting was designed to complement and enhance Clarges’ blend of traditional and contemporary materials.
D&H was selected to provide bespoke wall lights to draw the eye and provide a rhythmic accent to the public spaces. These unique fittings required a range of specialist metalworking techniques including knurling, casting, machining and spinning and Dernier & Hamlyn is one of the few lighting companies in the UK that can provide all of these skills from its in-house team.
More than 70 wall lights featuring plain glass columns inside hand cut glass tubes joined by bronze hand-formed in Dernier & Hamlyn’s London factory to produce unique effects were manufactured to meet Martin Kemp Design’s exacting standards. Dernier & Hamlyn also produced four beautiful wall mounted floor lamps for Clarges that feature hand turned vertical rods and silk shades with handmade Tudor ruff style trims giving playful reference to London’s historic past.
Oliver Davies, Associate at Martin Kemp Design says: “At Clarges Mayfair we were keen to keep everything British. The bespoke lighting is a key element of our design so selecting a UK manufacturer that has a reputation for high quality and we could trust was essential. Our team worked closely with theirs to produce light fittings that met the brief in ways that were practical and cost conscious, whilst maintaining the intricacy of the design. Working with D&H was a real pleasure and seeing our lights develop from drawings to reality in their UK based factory, reinforced the legacy we have instilled in the project.”
Ben Hollands from StudioFractal says: “Dernier and Hamlyn was selected due to their track record of high-quality craftsmanship and their expertise in creating handcrafted bespoke lighting. Their glass and metal work are always of the highest quality, and they worked tirelessly to integrate our lighting within the wall light to insure the perfect ambiance within the scheme.”
